Effective October 2, 2015 the Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority (LMHA) has available for review and inspection a Significant Amendment to the 2015 Annual Plan at the LMHA Administrative Offices, 1600 Kansas Ave., Lorain.  The Amendment to the Plan is also available at all public housing site offices (locations provided on our web site), on the LMHA website @ http://www.lmha.org/about-lmha/annual-reports/, or by TDD/TTY (800) 750-0750.

A public hearing will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 16, 2015 at LMHA, 1600 Kansas Ave., Lorain.  All public comments will be heard and discussed this hearing.

The LMHA is selling surplus / obsolete building materials. 1 Van 2 Trucks and 2 street Vacuums. All bids start at $1 each!.

Based on the number of applicants received for the Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List Lottery, all applicants with a confirmation number will be placed on the Waiting List. LMHA will contact those confirmed applicants in the future. Due to heavy volume of calls, LMHA staff is unable to respond to calls and questions regarding the Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List.

LMHA is now accepting applications for the Homeownership Program classes taking place May 11^th & 18^th from 10am – 3pm. Learn topics such as banking, money management, credit repair, and cover the entire home buying process from beginning to end. Not sure if you are ready to purchase, but would like start preparing for when the time comes? You can still attend. Only those wishing to transition into the Homeownership program are required to apply. The classes are open to the public. The Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority (LMHA) has determined to temporarily open the Housing Choice Voucher waiting list. 1,500 applicants will be randomly selected to be placed on the waiting list.

It is projected it will take two years to serve all the families placed on the waiting list.

LMHA will be temporarily opening our Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) waiting list to receive pre-applications for a period effective 12:01 AM, Sunday, January 8, 2017 until 11:59 pm, Saturday, January 14, 2017.

All interested parties MUST complete an online. Click here to apply.

If you do not have access to a computer, there are some available for public use at your local public library and the main office of LMHA at 1600 Kansas Ave., Lorain, Ohio.

Please be advised that applicants are strongly encouraged to provide email addresses in addition to mailing addresses when completing online applications in order to assist LMHA in efficiently processing the waiting list.

Effective 11:59 p.m., October 14, 2016, Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority will stop accepting online applications. 

All applications received prior to 11:59 p.m. on October 14th will be processed according to LMHA’s approved policies, which are available at www.lmha.org/about-lmha/lmha-policies/.  All applicants who applied prior to the closing of the Waiting List must continue to report all changes to the Admissions Department within 10 business days of the change in order to continue to be considered for eligibility.

We expect to begin accepting new applications again in early 2017.  LMHA will announce in advance when the Waiting List will reopen.

Important Update to HUD Waivers

2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 Bedroom Public Housing Waiting List Reopening

The Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority (LMHA) will be accepting pre-applications for the Public Housing Program waiting list for only the 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 bedrooms. Pre-applications can be downloaded from www.lmha.org. Paper forms are available at the entrance of LMHA’s Main Office, 1600 Kansas Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052. Completed pre-applications must be sent via US mail to LMHA, P.O. Box 1010 Lorain, Ohio 44055. Applications submitted by any other means will not be eligible. Only one pre-application accepted per household. Only one pre-application per envelope.

Upon receipt, LMHA will retain in order based on bedroom size and the date received. On each Monday and Wednesday beginning July 13, 2020, LMHA will select a pre-determined number of applications per needed bedroom size in order of their receipt. The number selected will be in accordance with LMHA’s operational needs. LMHA will contact those selected only by the phone number or email provided on the pre-application to begin screening for eligibility. Applicants who do not qualify for a 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 bedroom unit based on family composition will not be selected for pre-screening.
